Every morning, just after sunrise, Chris walks across the yard to greet some of our farm’s most eager residents. Waiting patiently at the gate of their freshly refurbished coop, our flock of hens are ready to start their day. As soon as the gate opens, they burst out into the farmyard, happily roaming free and foraging the ground for seeds, bugs, and other tasty finds. Their natural rhythm and curiosity bring life to the farm, and eventually fresh eggs to our table.
Oscar, our playful pup, has a favorite toy—a well-worn, deflated soccer ball that brings out his joyful side. When he’s especially happy, he grabs it with his teeth and launches into a wild routine, spinning in circles and tossing it into the air with surprising flair. He’ll pounce, twist, and repeat the process with tail-wagging enthusiasm, turning the simple ball into a source of endless entertainment.
A curious black bear recently wandered into the farmyard, hoping to score a free lunch from the bird feeders. After sniffing around and finding nothing but empty seed trays, the bear was met by a little Chihuahua. With a flurry of barking yips, the tiny dog convinced the unexpected guest to retreat. Undeterred but unsuccessful, the bear lumbered back into the woods, leaving the bird seed—and its dignity—behind.
In this serene December evening video, our Amish neighbor skillfully guides his two powerful horses as they pull two trailers loaded with fallen oak trees across the snow-dusted landscape. The rhythmic sound of hooves crunching the frozen ground and the gentle creak of wooden wheels echo through the quiet winter air. Framed by the soft glow of our house, the scene captures the timeless beauty of hard work, harmony with nature, and the quiet strength of a simpler way of life.
