Our 2015 Kubota Tractor officially arrived on July 15—and it’s already proving to be a game changer for the farm. This versatile machine came fully equipped with an impressive lineup of attachments that allow us to tackle projects in every season.
The setup includes a robust bucket loader, 60-inch mower deck, grading scraper, rotary tiller, claw grapple, pallet fork, and a quick hitch system that makes switching between implements fast and easy. From clearing brush and maintaining trails to lifting heavy oak logs and prepping garden beds, this tractor handles every task with power and precision.
For winter work, it’s ready to roll with a snow blower featuring a hydraulic chute rotator and high-visibility LED lighting, ensuring safe and efficient operation even in harsh conditions.
This arrival marks a major step forward—dramatically increasing what we can accomplish and how efficiently we can care for the land.
Chris and I have officially signed the papers — we own the farm! Our dream of “un-retiring” to Chris’ northern Minnesota family homestead is now a reality. Established in 1883 by her great-grandparents, the 80-acre farm holds deep roots, and we’re excited to carry on its legacy. We’ve already started projects and plan to add a garden, chickens, barn cats, and more. Chris’ mom, Joyce, will be tending her flower and vegetable beds, and we look forward to blending our love of the farm, music, family, and friends. Stay tuned for the adventures ahead!
With the Big House, the Coop, the Shop, the Barn, the Chapel, and the Granary, and lots of trees and lawns, we've got room to dream! Follow along as we renovate and refresh the place we call home!
The farm has always been a place of music! We're creating a music studio at the farm to host artists who want to escape to a rustic rural setting to relax, compose and/or record music.
Chris is an accomplished composer and singer. Download a pdf of her music, or purchase her new book, Still Shining, a collection of songs for solo, choir and instrumentals. Let us know if you have a recording of her music that we can upload on our website!
Joyce is an expert stained glass artist who is able to create small and large pieces and excels in teaching others how to enjoy the art of glass work.
Over the years, the farm has been home to an eclectic mix of animals—goats, llamas, alpacas, pigs, turkeys, horses, dogs, and cats. Today, fifteen hens have taken up residence in the newly refurbished chicken coop, bringing fresh energy and a touch of charm to the barnyard.
Of course, no farm is complete without loyal cats and dogs. Four hardworking farm cats keep the barnyard in order, while Oscar, our vigilant dog, stands guard against pesky squirrels, ensuring all are safe and sound.
Beyond the barnyard, the surrounding woods reveal traces of northern Minnesota's abundant wildlife, making it a paradise for nature lovers and a true reflection of farm life intertwined with nature’s beauty.
Our plans to manage our 30 acres of forest land involve harvesting firewood for heat, as well as clearing out brush to improve forest management. These activities help to promote biodiversity, improve habitat for wildlife, and ensure that the land remains healthy and vibrant.
